Cool song! :)

I like the challenge of making the song evolve according to some story :) Even though it sometimes didn't change naturally enough (to me), it created an awesome atmoshpere :D
(I also like that you chose to depict then 18th century with a techno song :o ;D)

Also, I'm Canadian and I can confirm it's a true story ;)

Thank you so much for the review! This was actually inspired by history class and that's why I made it XD
I just love making techno songs (idk why lol) so I made this a techno song.
Thanks for the tip! I'll try to make my songs transition more naturally next time :)

Great song!

The intro really caught my attention :)
The evolution was perfect until 0:35, where the pad felt too loud and seemed to cover the other instruments. At 0:45 or so (also at 2:09), same thing with the pad that goes on and off like a wub; try making it more quiet so it doesn't ruin all the calm ambiance that you built just before ;)

Other than this, the overall arrangement/structure of the song was really cool. Nice song! :)

Nice song!

Even though a bit long, the intro hooked my attention :)
The instrument that starts at ~0:30 and ~2:10 seems a liiiitle bit loud and seems to cover the rest. I also noticed the drums were covered a bit too much; I'd suggest you make them a bit louder :)

The only real problem I see in that song is that it would need some variation in the intensity, or something like that. Don't misunderstand me, I'm not asking for a dubstep drop or anything, I just feel it would make the song better if it had some more evolution/build-up and variation. The drop doesn't sound "drop-ish" enough; try adding at least some "boom"-like transition effect. You can also add some more background instruments to make it feel more intense and filled :) There's also the end of the song that feels a bit sudden, there should be some outro (even just a fade out would help) ;)

For the rest, the instument choice and the melody creates an awesome atmoshpere. There's just the mastering that would need some more work ;)

Overall, it's a good song. There is some place for improvement, but it sound really good :)

I know. The DAW I use only has thirty synths!

I like :) What I liked a bit less from the original is that the drop came a little suddenly, without enough build-up (my opinion); the build-up in this VIP edition makes it my favorite :) I also really liked the ending, its calmness contrasts with the intense drop :D

(Just a question, why is it Drum'n'Bass if the drops (1:16 and 2:33) are dubstep? Just wondering, I'm not very familiar with music categories)

DetiousMusic responds:

I agree, I tried adding waaaay more tension. :P

And usually the drum pattern+BPM identifies a genre. Dubstep usually being half-step at 140 BPM.

I put dubstep in the tags even though it's not because the drops consist mostly of growls, hard basses etc. It feels like super fast dubstep but alas, it's drum n' bass. (:

I really like the atmosphere of the song! The description/story fits so well to the theme :D

DetiousMusic responds:

Thanks a lot! I always try and find a theme that fits :)

Idk how many times I've been listening to this, but I think it's time to leave a review :)

I usually don't really like dubstep, but I have to say this track impressed me the first time I listened, and still does today :D I particularly like the dark ambiance of the song; each time I listen to it, I imagine either an old deactivated factory, or an old mining facility, or anything that implies some machinery in darkness that was inactive for a long time and got re-activated :)

One really good point I noticed : in the beginning, you used and instrument/sequence you never re-used later in the song. That's what made me press that play button again after listening to it a first time. And I pressed it again, and again, until I became kinda addicted to the song :D

Easily deserves 5 stars in my opinion. I usually find some improvable points, but I honestly think the good points largely covers the problems ;)

Keep up the good work! :D

Cool song :)

There are a few things that would need improvements. In my opinion, you should have used a piano as main instrument, and you should have used more bass outside the drop.

On the other hand, I can see you put effort in this song. I do see some elements from the ToE's, such as slow drop vs. fast drop. Also, the overall feeling is not so bad :)

I think 3.5-4 stars would be a good score; I round it up because I see some "low-scoring" (Idk what's the word) reviews justified with "sounds bad" and no further detail or suggestions. I believe your efforts deserve some recognition. But keep trying, that's how you learn and become good! ;)
